OrthoPulse in Charles County and St. Mary’s County, MD

Residents of Charles County and St. Mary’s County, and surrounding areas in Maryland now have the option of OrthoPulse®, a state-of-the-art, FDA-cleared device for speeding up orthodontic treatments, now available at Sequence Orthodontics, conveniently located in Waldorf and Leonardtown.

What is OrthoPulse®?

OrthoPulse® is a clinically proven, FDA-cleared Class II device that uses low levels of light energy to stimulate the bone surrounding the roots of your teeth and facilitate tooth movement, which may reduce treatment time for braces or clear aligners. It is the first device of its kind to be cleared for use with both braces and clear aligners by the FDA. The OrthoPulse® device is battery operated and self-administered in 10-minute sessions once a day. In some cases, OrthoPulse® patients can decrease their overall orthodontic treatment time by up to 50 percent.

How Does OrthoPulse® Work?

The OrthoPulse® device is a one-size-fits-all mouthpiece. The device is comfortable and can be worn while doing other tasks such as reading or watching TV. OrthoPulse® helps to accelerate teeth movement by photobiomodulation (PBM), using low-level near-infrared light (nIR). The nIR light encourages cell metabolism and creates an increase in chemical energy that can be used by the body to heal, regenerate and reduce inflammation and pain. OrthoPulse® gently delivers this low-level light energy to the bone and tissues around the tooth roots. The energy facilitates tooth movement, reducing pain and overall treatment times.

How Do I Know if OrthoPulse® is Right for Me?

The main advantage of OrthoPulse® is its ability to accelerate orthodontic treatment. OrthoPulse® is ideal for patients in a rush. For example, if you are getting married, preparing for college, or simply want to straighten your teeth, OrthoPulse® can get you that perfect smile, faster.

How Long Will I Have to Use OrthoPulse®?

The OrthoPulse® device will have to be worn once a day for ten minutes throughout your braces or aligner treatment. The device features a silicone mouthpiece, rechargeable battery, a built-in timer, and Bluetooth® for syncing with an app to track your treatment progress.

Is the OrthoPulse® Treatment Painful or Uncomfortable?

OrthoPulse® is completely painless, and in fact, OrthoPulse® can even reduce the discomfort of tooth movement. Using light in dentistry has been clinically proven to be safe without adverse events such as root resorption, pathologic tooth mobility, and gingival recession.
