Many people suffer from crooked teeth, teeth with uneven spacing and/or improper jaw alignment. It is common for these people to seek to remedy their situation with the aid of orthodontic treatment. Orthodontic treatment doesn’t just benefit the aesthetic appeal of your mouth. It can also help improve speech, chewing, and digestion. There are many options of orthodontic treatment to consider when choosing which one is right for you.
Traditional Braces
Traditional braces correct and align the teeth and the jaw. Your orthodontist will attach brackets to your teeth held together by archwire. When the archwire is tightened, the pressure applied to the brackets will allow the teeth to shift and align into a proper, healthy position. An orthodontist may also use rubber bands to help apply more pressure to the teeth in some instances. Braces as most suitable for adults, teenagers, and children that need proper orthodontic treatment to align their teeth and jaw.
Invisalign®
Invisalign® treatment uses clear, and custom made plastic aligners that slowly shift the teeth into proper alignment. Alignment may take longer with this method, but Invisalign® allows the patient to maintain a natural appearance while engaging in normal eating and oral hygiene practices. Additionally, the aligners themselves may be cleaned with soap and water. Invisalign® is usually recommended for adults and teenagers who prefer not to have traditional metal braces disrupting their smile.
PROPEL®
The PROPEL® system helps speed up the process of orthodontic treatment through Alveocentesis, a patented, clinically tested technique that stimulates the alveolar bone which makes it easier for teeth to align correctly with Invisalign® or traditional braces. Tiny perforations increase blood flow and encourage the periodontal bones to heal quickly. The PROPEL® system is a suitable orthodontic treatment for 80 percent of patients and is often used as a supplement to other orthodontic treatments.
SureSmile®
SureSmile® is an orthodontic technique of the future! SureSmile® uses 3-D imaging, treatment planning software, and robotics to design and create the wire for the patient’s teeth. The orthodontist takes digital images of a patient’s mouth with either a white light scanner or cone- beam computed tomography (CBCT). The orthodontist uses the software to individually align each tooth and create the model for a wire. Patients usually undergo fewer return appointments due to the accuracy of this technique. SureSmile® is right for patients who might be strapped for time and prefer a teeth-straightening solution that requires fewer appointments.
Six Month Smiles®
Six Month Smiles® is a fast orthodontic technique. Six Month Smiles® uses clear brackets and tooth-colored memory wires that are almost invisible to straighten the teeth over a period of six months, in most cases. After the initial fitting, patients return every four weeks for simple adjustments. Six Month Smiles® is recommended for patients who want to have their orthodontic treatment completed in a short period of time.
