Charles County Residents Ask: What is AcceleDent®?
So, your orthodontist has finally told you what you have been dreading: you need braces. Apart from the cost and discomfort, one of the biggest complaints patients have with corrective orthodontic treatments is the length of time they take. Many people go to extreme lengths to find faulty alternatives that will speed up the process, but now there is a revolutionary device recommended by orthodontists that can decrease treatment time by 38% to 50%. When used only 20 minutes a day, AcceleDent® technology will increase tooth movement while decreasing the discomfort orthodontic treatments are notorious for. Sound too good to be true? Read on to learn how AcceleDent® can cut your total treatment time in half.
What Is AcceleDent®?
AcceleDent® is a faster, more comfortable, accelerated orthodontic treatment that is used in conjunction with regular orthodontic treatments, including metal braces, clear braces, and Invisalign®. This device uses soft pulse technology and cyclic forces to accelerate the movement of teeth by up to 50%, meaning it can cut optimistically your orthodontic treatment time in half. Other benefits of AcceleDent® include a decrease in discomfort and oral health issues by lessening the risk of cavities, gum inflammation, and white spots.
How Does AcceleDent® Work?
The AcceleDent® accessory is portable and removable and consists of a mouthpiece that connects to an activator. When in use, it will gently vibrate using SoftPulse technology. These micropulse vibrations travel through the roots of your teeth to the surrounding bone to hasten tooth movement and increase the rate of cellular activity compared to the constant, static pressure experienced with braces. This pain-free technology exerts even less force on your teeth than an electric toothbrush and over 200 times less force than regular chewing for a comfortable session.
How Do I Use AcceleDent®?
Easy to handle, users will begin their session by attaching the mouthpiece to the activator. Once the activator is turned on, it is placed in the mouth and bitten down on firmly to hold it into place and ensure there is contact on all sides of the mouthpiece. The device should then be used for a full, continuous, 20-minute session every day at around the same time. One benefit of the device is that it is entirely hands-free allowing you to multitask and go about your daily routine as you undergo your session!
Am I A Good Candidate for AcceleDent®?
Fortunately, AcceleDent®’s versatility works for a variety of cases and for most orthodontic appliances. Patients of all ages are able to benefit from AcceleDent®, however, candidacy is still determined on a case by case basis.
